Citizenergy platform for community energy awards sustainable energy project of the year
Winner to be announced on 1 February at special EU Parliament event on citizen engagement in sustainable energy
Brussels, 10 January 2017. The long awaited winner of the 2016 Citizenergy Project of the Year award is due to be announced on 1 February in the halls of the EU Parliament during a special session on citizen engagement in sustainable energy. The award celebrates the one-year anniversary of the Citizenergy portal for community energy investment. The overwhelmingly clear results were a product of votes cast by hundreds of individuals, each of whom rated crowdfunded and cooperative based energy projects according to their contribution to a sustainable energy future.
Fittingly, the awards ceremony will take place within the framework of a special EU Parliament event on citizen engagement, hosted by MEP Dario Tamburrano of Italy and organised by the Active Citizenship Network. Members of the press and other interested parties are cordially invited to attend the event:
The engagement of citizens in sustainable energy
Sharing successful experiences across Europe
On 1 February in Brussels, Belgium
From 10:00 to 12:00
At the European Parliament, Room ASP7H1
Online registration closes 20 January 2017 – admission possible only with valid registration.
Participants are asked to bring their passports/identification documents to the event so that the required parliamentary pass may be issued.
In addition to the conferring of the Project of the Year Award, event highlights include contributions from key EU institutions and networks in the field of energy. A panel discussion featuring on the ground experiences of sustainable energy cooperatives and crowdfunding platforms throughout Europe and legal recommendations arising from the experience of Citizenergy, the first portal to promote cross-border investment in community energy, will round out the programme.

Citizenergy
Crowdfunding platforms and cooperatives both enable individuals to directly invest in sustainable energy, but it is difficult to get an overview of the possibilities. Citizenergy changes all this. Made possible by European Union funding, Citizenergy is the first platform to encourage cross-border investment in sustainable energy and the first to provide information on sustainable energy opportunities from both crowdfunding platforms and cooperatives. It reinforces the work of such organisations in financing renewable and energy efficiency projects, increasing their reach while promoting transparency. The Tripadvisor of our sustainable energy landscape, Citizenergy is a valuable resource for individuals looking to get involved in the energy revolution.citizenergy.eu
